Creating a 500k transaction lift for Upside

Upside is a cash back app used for eating out, buying groceries and getting gas. They average 4.5mm active users and are ranked #7 in the app store for travel.
I rebranded 200+ app screens to align with our newly re-branded company along with a design system.
First, we audited the app.
We gathered all of our app screens and compiled them into one file.
This allowed us to organize the work into groups that made sense for engineering.
Then, I started work on Upside’s first design system.
The goal was for designers to easily design a new screen without needing to leave the file.
We introduced design tokens, partnering with engineering to build a cross functional system.
This allowed both teams to work faster, produce consistent designs, and cut down on overhead.
I also created 3 type scales, one for each of our platforms, based on scales.
In tandem with this, I was designing the new look and feel of the app.
To help increase the value of our app for first time users, I was able to show 2 offers instead of 1 ‘above the fold’.

We saw a 7.5% increase in users adding a card to their wallet once we launched this new screen 🎉.

I also designed components to be flexible, like this table.
And I improved accessibility when possible, like adding an underline to the bottom navigation.

Within one month of launching the rebranded wallet screen, we saw a 7.5% increase in users adding their cards to the app.
500k transactions 💸
Transactions increased by 500k when the rebrand work launched, equaling between $500k and $1MM in revenue.
Re-coded app 💻
We used this project to re-engineer our app, making it easier to implement changes for future projects, saving time and effort.
New QA Process 🕵️
Our team was the first to practice bug bashes; engineering and design, together in a room, testing app builds. It worked so well, all teams adopted the practice.
1st design system 🎨
We built and launched Upside’s first ever design system alongside this project, defining new styles and components as we went.

We were #4 in the app store for travel in 2023, and are often in the top 10.
